Farewell to a Ministry Lead

(Adapted from the United Methodist Church’s Order of Farewell to Members Liturgy)

Welcome

Opening Song- Salt and Light

You make me want to be like You
Your holiness I will pursue
I want the heart of Jesus

Show me the meaning of Your grace
I want to give the world a taste
Of the love of Jesus

Make me salt, Make me light
Let Your holy fire ignite
Reveal Your glory in my life
I am not ashamed, To lift up Your holy name
Make me salt, Make me light

You make me want to be like You
Your holiness I will pursue
I want the heart of Jesus

Show me the meaning of Your grace
I want to give the world a taste
Of the love of Jesus

Make me salt, Make me light
Let Your holy fire ignite
Reveal Your glory in my life
I am not ashamed, To lift up Your holy name
Make me salt, Make me light

Make me salt, Make me light
Let Your holy fire ignite
Reveal Your glory in my life
I am not ashamed, To lift up Your holy name
Make me salt, Make me light

Scripture reading and remarks

1 Samuel 20:42

Then Jonathan said to David, “Go in peace, since both of us have sworn in the name of the Lord, saying, ‘The Lord shall be between me and you, and between my descendants and your descendants, forever.’” He got up and left; and Jonathan went into the city.

Thanksgivings for a Ministry of Love

 Song- Stand in Your Love

When darkness tries to roll over my bones
When sorrow comes to steal the joy I own
When brokenness and pain is all I know
I won't be shaken, no, I won't be shaken

'Cause my fear doesn't stand a chance
When I stand in Your love
My fear doesn't stand a chance
When I stand in Your love
My fear doesn't stand a chance
When I stand in Your love

Shame no longer has a place to hide
And I am not a captive to the lies
I'm not afraid to leave my past behind
Oh, I won't be shaken, no, I won't be shaken

My fear doesn't stand a chance
When I stand in Your love
My fear doesn't stand a chance
When I stand in Your love
My fear doesn't stand a chance
When I stand in Your love

Oh, I'm standing

There's power that can break off every chain
There's power that can empty out a grave
There's resurrection power that can save
There's power in Your name, power in Your name

My fear doesn't stand a chance
When I stand in Your love
My fear doesn't stand a chance
When I stand in Your love
My fear doesn't stand a chance
When I stand in Your love

Oh, when, when I'm standing in Your love
Oh, my fear doesn't stand a chance
When I stand in Your love
My fear doesn't stand a chance
When I stand in Your love
My fear doesn't stand a chance
When I stand in Your love

Oh, I standing in Your love
Oh, standing on the rock

Oh, I am standing, standing in Your love

Communion

Song- Come Unto Me

Come unto Me all you who are weary
Come unto Me all you who need rest
Take up My yoke and learn all about Me
And I will give you rest

Why do you linger
Why do you wait
You carry on without Me
I have always been here
But still you hesitate
I have much in store for you
If only you would

Pastor:

The church is a family. United  by the common recognition of Jesus Christ as our Savior, we are all brothers and sisters. And, for a time, New Journey Church  is our home.

Like every human family, our church family is formed and reformed over time: as members are born, as they die, as members are adopted into our family, and as they leave our congregation for a new home, in a different place.

For a time, _______________________ has/have lived with us. We have shared with each other good times and bad, we have shared each other's joys and sorrows, we have lightened each other's heavy loads.

Together we have laughed and cried, together we have worshiped and praised God, together we have lived.

Congregation:

We feel sorrow in your leaving, yet we rejoice with you in anticipation of this new phase of your life.

We will miss your love and physical presence in our daily lives, yet we know you will add much to the lives of those blessed to meet you on your journey in your new community just as you have added much to our lives.

Congregation and pastor:

We will pray for you and for the whole family of God.

Pastor:

Let us pray:

O God, you are the strength and the protector of your people.
We humbly place in your hands ______________ of this congregation
who is/are about to leave us physically, but will join us virtually when possible and will always be a part of our family

Keep and preserve him/her/them, O Lord, in all health and safety, both of body and soul;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

________________________, Go in the peace of Christ. Our prayers go with you. Amen.

Lord, we also ask a blessing on the food and distanced fellowship we are about to partake in.  Amen.
