Sunday Morning Team Gatherings

On December 1, New Journey began holding a weekly Team Gathering at Tyler Elementary School in Gainesville on Sundays from 10 - 11 am as we prepare for our launch on April 20, Easter Sunday, 2025.  This Sunday team gathering provides a space for us to come together as we dream of everything this "church for the rest of us" can truly be.  These team gatherings are open to anyone who in interested in being a part of this community of faith.

If you are looking to be a part of this journey of building a church for the rest of us, we invite you to visit one Sunday in the future.  If you are interested but have a few questions or need more information, contact us by clicking here.

If you have additional questions other than the ones below, feel free to email Kevin, our Lead Pastor, at kevin@newjourney.cc.

A Few FAQs

What does the tag line, "a church for the rest of us," mean?

It means that we are building a church for those who may not feel comfortable in a more traditional church setting or they have had difficult experiences with church. This is church for all people that are looking for a community of faith that is focused on love, justice, and making a difference in the lives of others.

What if I do not believe in God, am I still welcome?

Yes. There are no requirements for anyone to be a follower of Jesus to attend any of our gatherings.  We invite those that are exploring faith to come along for the journey.

What happens during your Sunday Morning Team Gathering?

Our team gatherings include a half hour of reflections, prayers, a few songs accompanied on the guitar, communion, and a weekly talk designed to help us dream about what it could look like to be a church for the rest of us in Gainesville, Northern Viriginia, and beyond!  This first half hour is usually available via Facebook Live, by visiting our Facebook page at facebook.com/newjourneyva.  Then we then move into a team discussion as we brainstorm and dream together.

Are you affiliated with a denomination?

No. We are a church of people following the Jesus of the gospels, which a message that transforms lives and calls us to make a difference in the lives of those around us, especially those who feel as if they have no voice in our society. The best way to describe us is that we are non-denominational. However, another word you could use in inter-denominational, which means we have people that come from all kinds of church backgrounds and some with no church background at all.

Is this church is primarily for the LGBTQIA+ Community?

No. We are a church for all.  We are an affirming church which means we don't just say folks in the LGBTQIA+ community can attend, they are fully welcomed into the full life of the church.  New Journey is made up of a small team right now, but in this small team we have great diversity; LGBTQIA+ & heterosexual, old & young, married & single, born in the United States & born in a different country, etc. While our pastor is a married gay man, it is our collective desire to be a beautiful tapestry of people from all walks of life, doing faith together.
